Dr. Joanna L. Ho is a professor of Accounting in The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. She holds both a B.B.A. and M.B.A. from the National Taiwan University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
Professor Ho is interested in incentive contracts, performance evaluations and compensation systems, management accounting practices, corporate governance, auditor choice and audit fees, and use information technology to improve firm performance. In addition, she studies how ownership structure (e.g., family ownership and state ownership) may affect a company’s auditor choice and audit fees. Her research interests not only pertain to U.S. companies but also to companies in other countries such as China, Japan, and Taiwan.
Dr. Ho has received the KPMG Peat Marwick Research Opportunities in Auditing Grant and her work has been published in journals such as Accounting Horizon, Behavior Research in Accounting, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of International Accounting Research, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Strategic Management Journal
and others. She has made numerous presentations at conferences and workshops held in the States and around the world.Dr. Ho has been teaching management accounting-related courses at the UCI Full-time MBA Program, Fully-employed MBA Program, Executive MBA Program, Healthcare Executive MBA Program, and Executive Education Programs. She is also teaching Global Business classes for the Executive MBA Program. She has received GSM Excellence in Teaching awards and a University Wide Celebration of Excellence in Teaching award.
Dr. Ho was the Vice President for Sections and Regions at the American Accounting Association (AAA). She has also been president of the Chinese Accounting Professor's Association of North America (CAPANA) and secretary of the Chinese American Faculty Association - Southern California (CAFA). In addition, she was Associate Dean at her school for four years. She has also received the UCI Graduate School of Management Faculty Service Excellence Award.
Dr. Ho was born in Taiwan and lives in Irvine, California, with her husband. Dr. Ho is also very active in her community and her church.
